What does an affiliate manager do?

Affiliate managers recruit affiliates, place them on the right casinos and keep their traffic converting. Both sides of the role, and how to start in it.

Two jobs with one name

In casino affiliate marketing, affiliate manager describes two different roles, and most confusion about the title comes from mixing them up.

  • The account manager a network or operator assigns to look after affiliates. They agree deals, allocate casinos, supply tracking links and creatives, and are the affiliate's contact when something goes wrong. Usually an employee.
  • The independent manager who builds and runs their own group of affiliates: recruits them, places them on casinos, keeps them productive, and earns on the results. A partnership with a network rather than a job at one.

The day-to-day work is close to identical. What differs is who the affiliates belong to and how the manager is paid. The glossary entry defines both senses.

What the work consists of

  • Recruiting. Finding affiliates who run traffic worth having, and getting them to apply.
  • Qualifying. Checking what each one actually runs: the channels, the markets, the volume, and whether their past traffic survived a casino's fraud review.
  • Placing. Matching each affiliate to casinos that accept their markets and channels. The programme coverage pages show that match from the outside.
  • Setting terms. Agreeing a CPA, a revenue share or a hybrid per casino, sized to the traffic. CPA vs RevShare is the conversation most deals start with.
  • Getting tracking right. Handing over the right link for each casino and checking the first conversions arrive. How affiliate tracking works is the part new managers underestimate.
  • Watching quality. Spotting a conversion rate that is too good to be true, or a channel a casino prohibits, before the casino does.
  • Keeping them paid and answered. Payment questions, missing conversions and new casinos are most of the inbox.

The skills that matter

SkillWhy it matters
Commercial judgementA deal has to work for the affiliate's traffic and for the casino. Too rich and it gets clawed back, too thin and the affiliate leaves.
Tracking literacyMost disputes are tracking problems. A manager who can read a click ID and a postback resolves them in minutes, not weeks.
ComplianceMarkets and channels carry rules, and an affiliate who breaks one can lose earned commission. The manager is the first line of defence.
RelationshipsAffiliates stay with the manager who answers, explains and pays on time, often for years.

Recruiting your first affiliates

  • Start with people you already know who run casino or adjacent traffic. A warm introduction converts far better than a cold message.
  • Go where affiliates talk. Industry forums, affiliate communities and conferences are where the active ones are, and where your reputation is built.
  • Publish something useful. A manager known for explaining deals honestly attracts the affiliates who value that, which are the ones worth keeping.
  • Qualify before you place. Ask about channels, markets, volume and past programmes before you promise a casino. One bad placement costs more than one missing affiliate.

Here, every manager gets a personal signup link. Anyone who applies through it is attributed to you and arrives in your own review queue, so you know exactly who came from your work.

Common questions

Both exist. Networks and operators employ account managers to look after their affiliates. An independent manager instead brings and runs their own group of affiliates in partnership with a network. Our affiliate manager programme is the second kind; it is not a salaried vacancy.

It helps, because the arrangement is built on the affiliates you bring, but it is not a hard requirement. Tell us on the application who you can reach and in which markets, and we judge it from there.

On the results of the affiliates they bring, under terms agreed with the network. Ours are agreed individually when the application is approved and are not published, because they depend on the affiliates and markets involved.

Yes. Running your own campaigns alongside your affiliates is common, and your own conversions are tracked and paid exactly like any affiliate's.
